The Challenge
For the past two decades, Grade 5 students at Brawerman Elementary and Village School have partnered on a collaborative Lego robotics challenge. This project is completed during technology class as part of the students' regular curriculum. Students prepare for the Annual Robotics Challenge by learning to program a robot using Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotic kits to sense light, sound, and to navigate around objects. They work in teams to build and program robots to meet a specific challenge, such as programming the robots to sing, dance, solve a puzzle, play sports, or create a piece of art. Students work in teams and meet once a week for about 10 weeks building and programming robots to meet a specific challenge. Taking advantage of our proximity, the schools meet for a face to face Lego Challenge at the end of the project. Teams share their designs, have an impromptu "race", and enjoy pizza and social time.
